Introduction

Story Mode in Culdcept The First features 11 boss encounters across a single-player campaign. Each boss has unique stats, abilities, and AI patterns. The story follows a Cepter (Culdcept player) on a journey through the Culdcept universe, collecting cards and mastering territories. Story Mode is the best way for new players to learn the game, earn starter cards, and unlock the full card database.

Core Mechanics

Story Mode features 11 sequential boss fights, each with increasing difficulty. Bosses use custom decks tailored to their element and difficulty tier. Some bosses have special rules (e.g., 'all creatures gain +10 ATK'). Defeating a boss unlocks new cards and progresses the story. Story Mode uses simplified rules — no dice rolling, focus on card battles. Story cards earned during the campaign can be used in multiplayer. Boss difficulty is tuned for solo play, so strategies that work in multiplayer may not work in Story Mode.

Challenges

Story Mode is single-player only, so multiplayer strategies don't directly apply. Boss difficulty is fixed — there's no dynamic difficulty adjustment. Some boss encounters require specific card combos that may not be in your starter deck. Story Mode uses simplified rules, so you miss out on the full Culdcept experience (dice rolling, territory control). Story unlocks are account-bound, not account-wide, so replaying on a new account starts from scratch. Boss strategies are limited by your current card collection.
